Soccer Referee Courses/Referee News for Whitecourt - 2022

 

Whitecourt Minor Soccer is offering several referee courses this year.  The mini referee course, the entry level referee course, as well as the refresher course.  Information on each of the courses is located below.  

 

To allow the students enough time to complete the online modules prior to the webinar, the date of the webinar has been moved to Sunday May 1 from 6 to 9 pm.

 

Mini Referee Course - For individuals who are 12 years or older as of May 15 this year. This course is for individuals who would like to referee U9 and younger only.  However, Mini referee status will include Assistant Referee training.  

 

The Mini Referee course covers:

  • Referee duties and responsibilities
  • The rules of mini soccer
  • On field practical training
  • Basic offside for Assistant Referees
  • Assistant Referee calls and signals 

 

Referees are supplied with 7x7 rules of Mini Soccer, referee badge and whistle.

 

This course will be offered in Edson at Pine Grove Middle School (4619 12th Avenue) on Sunday May 8 from 10 am to 2 pm.  The cost is $26.25.  You will need to register at www.ref.centre.com/alberta.  The course number is 2050.

 

Entry Level Referee Course - For individuals who are 14 year or older as of May 15 this year.

Being an entry level referee means that the person would be eligible to referee U9 and U11 house league games as well as travel team games provided the age of the players is BELOW their own age.  Entry level referees are eligible to be a linesman (assistant referee) at any age level.  

 

The Entry Level Referee course involves self guided modules online,

, an exam, and a practical in person session in order to be certified.  

 

The entry level referee course covers:

  • Referee and assistant referee duties and responsibilities
  • The FIFA laws of the game (11v11 soccer)
  • U11 8v8 Rules for the game
  • On field practical training

 

Student are supplied with a FIFA law book, a U11 8v8 rule book and a referee badge and whistle, yellow and red cards and referee wallet

 

This course will be offered in Edson at Pine Grove Middle School (4619 12th Avenue) on Saturday May 7 from 11 am to 2 pm. The cost is $136.24.  You will need to register at www.refcentre.com/alberta. The course number is 2049. 

 

Please note that any person who takes the Mini Referee course or the Entry Level Referee course, passes and then referees a total of 3 games with WMS will be given a full refund in addition to getting paid the regular referee rate of pay.  

 

Outdoor Refresher Referee Course  - This course is for people who have their entry level course and need to “refresh” it on a yearly basis.  

 This referee course is for existing 11v11 entry level referees who need to refresh their skills prior to the start of the outdoor season.  Referees must take an outdoor refresher course each year to be eligible to ref.  This refresher course will be held online this year, so referees will need to log into Refcentre to work through the questionnaire and webinar prior to being recertified.

  • How to sign up for a Referee Course o Step 1 - Go to www.refcentre.com/alberta 
  • o Step 2 - Use the ‘search’ tool shown below in picture, to search for a course. 
  • o Step 3 - Click the ‘register’ link for the course you wish to attend. 
  • o Step 4 - Fill in your personal information on the form provided, and click ‘next’. 
  • o Step 5 - Contact the course host to make your payment of the course fee, or use the payment page that appears when the student is paying Alberta Soccer directly. 

To be eligible to take an Entry Level course you must be 14 years old or older, on or before May 15th 

To be eligible to take a Mini course you must be 12 years old or older, on or before May 15th
